Privacy Policy
How we handle your personal data. Last updated July 2026.
Pastoralist Community Initiative and Development Assistance (“PACIDA”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal data you share with us. This policy explains what we collect through this website, why we collect it, how we use and safeguard it, and the rights you have over your information.
Who we are
PACIDA is an indigenous, non-sectarian non-governmental organisation founded in 2008, working with pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities across Marsabit County, Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia. For any privacy questions, contact us at pacida@pacida.org.
Information we collect
We only collect the personal data you choose to give us through this website:
- Newsletter subscriptions. Your email address, when you sign up to receive updates from us.
- Contact form submissions. Your name, email address, and the subject and content of your message.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data through this site, and we ask that you do not include such information in messages to us unless it is necessary.
How we use your information
- To respond to your enquiries, requests and messages.
- To send you newsletters, impact stories and updates about our work — only where you have subscribed.
- To improve our communications and better serve the communities we work with.
Legal basis
We process your data on the basis of your consent (which you give when you submit a form or subscribe) and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries and carrying out our charitable mission. You may withdraw your consent at any time.
We do not sell your data
PACIDA does not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We may use trusted service providers (for example, email delivery or website hosting) to operate this site; where we do, they act only on our instructions and are bound to protect your data.
Data retention
We keep your data only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected. Newsletter data is retained until you unsubscribe. Contact messages are retained for a reasonable period to handle your enquiry and for our records, after which they are securely deleted.
How we protect your data
We apply appropriate organisational and technical measures to keep your data secure and to prevent unauthorised access, loss or misuse. Access to personal data is limited to staff who need it to do their work.
Your rights
Under applicable data-protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Ask us to delete your data, where there is no overriding reason to keep it.
- Withdraw consent and unsubscribe from our communications at any time.
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at pacida@pacida.org. Every newsletter also includes an unsubscribe option.
Data-protection law
We handle personal data in line with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 and its regulations, and with any other data-protection laws that apply to our work.
Cookies
This website uses only the cookies necessary for it to function properly. We do not use cookies to track you across other websites for advertising.
