Rekindling Hope After the Floods

After floods swept through Malabot Centre, emergency support helped Kurfa Umuro Katelo and her family of five begin to rebuild.

Kurfa Umuro Katelo, a 35-year-old resident of Malabot Centre in Marsabit County, lives with her family of five. When floods tore through the area, they washed away far more than property — they washed away a family’s sense of security.

In the aftermath, PACIDA — working with partner Christian Aid — reached households like Kurfa’s with emergency support to help them recover and rebuild.

When drought is followed by flood

The drylands of Northern Kenya now swing between extremes: years of failed rains broken by destructive floods. For families already stretched thin, a single flood can undo years of progress overnight.

Support that restores dignity

By responding quickly and working through trusted local partners, PACIDA helps flood-affected families meet urgent needs and take the first steps back toward stability — turning a moment of loss into the beginning of recovery.
